deVOL Kitchens
Simple things, beautifully moved.
deVOL makes kitchens by hand at Cotes Mill in Leicestershire and sells them, along with its own taps, tiles, lighting and homeware, from showrooms in London, Bath, New York and Los Angeles. Two websites carry the brand: devolkitchens.co.uk for the UK and devolkitchens.com for America. Both ran on Drupal 7, and both have now moved to Shopify, rebuilt pixel for pixel so that customers who have loved the site for years find it exactly as they left it, while the business behind it gains everything Shopify offers.

The Opportunity
deVOL's websites are as considered as its kitchens: generous photography, quiet typography, and pages that read more like a magazine than a shop. But underneath, both sites sat on Drupal 7, a platform that reached the end of its supported life in January 2025. Every new feature meant bespoke development, every update carried risk, and the brand was locked out of the tools modern retailers take for granted: a fast, trusted checkout, a large ecosystem of apps, and a platform that improves every month without a rebuild.
The brief was unusual. deVOL did not want a redesign. Its customers know and love the site, so the new one had to look and behave exactly like the old one, page for page, across two countries, two currencies and two very large catalogues.

The Solution
We rebuilt both websites as a single custom Shopify theme, matched pixel for pixel against the live Drupal sites and checked page by page against the originals. One codebase now powers both stores: the UK theme is the source of truth, and every improvement made there flows forward to the American store, while US-only changes stay in the US. Nothing is built twice, and the two sites can never drift apart.
The rebuild runs to 194 page templates and over a hundred sections, covering everything deVOL sells and says: the kitchen ranges and their projects, the design service, showroom pages, a page-turning brochure and brochure requests, handmade tiles with sample ordering and tiles sold by the linear metre, flooring with its accessories grouped in the basket, mix-and-match bundles, quick-order lists for trade, and the journal and press archive. For America, we mapped every product to its US SKU and switched measurements from metres to feet, so the .com reads as a native American store rather than a converted British one.

The Results
Both stores are now live on Shopify. devolkitchens.co.uk trades in pounds, devolkitchens.com in dollars, and to a returning customer neither looks any different: the same pages, the same photography, the same calm, unhurried feel. Behind them, more than 3,100 products and 1,600 journal articles came across intact, and both sites now run on one shared, maintainable codebase.
The real difference is what deVOL can do next. Instead of an end-of-life platform, the brand now has Shopify's checkout, its app ecosystem and a steady stream of new features, with a team that can change content itself rather than waiting on a developer. It was a long, meticulous project, and the reward is a pair of websites that look the way deVOL always has, built on a platform that can grow with it.
